With the cost of a transplant often exceeding $500,000, many transplant families are unable to shoulder the financial burden of such a procedure.  The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) is a national charity dedicated to organizing and guiding communities in raising funds for transplant-related expenses.  In DeFuniak Springs, volunteers are raising funds for COTA in honor of transplant patients like local boy, Uriah Oldacre.

Uriah is the son of John and Jessica Oldacre.  Born on January 31, 2008, Uriah was diagnosed with Chronic Granulomatosis Disease.  The doctors at National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, have recommended a life-saving stem cell transplant.  An estimated $30,000 is being raised by DeFuniak Springs volunteers.
